Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange data between a web server and a client. Due to the fact that the information exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a 3rd party can't intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of managing an Internet hosting account. The commands which may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared server, in particular, the possibilities are limited as you will not have root access to the web server, so you can simply create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. They're all actions that are executed within the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are tons of apps for other OSs, you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account with us and you would like to handle your content remotely through SSH, you may receive SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package doesn't provide this feature by default, you can easily add it with a few mouse clicks via the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the Control Panel, you'll see the host, the port number and the username you should use when you connect to the account. You can even select what password you want to use, given that it doesn't have to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared several Help articles in which you may find each of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting plan, along with examples of how they are used. Moreover, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection using a standard client such as FileZilla, for instance.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is offered by default with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you can include it via the hosting CP if required - even just for the current month. In any case, you'll be able to activate and de-activate the function with one mouse click via the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same spot, you will find the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You will also find a box where you can easily enter the password which you want to use, because it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better protection, you could also change it as much as you need. A full list of the commands which can be executed in a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a couple of examples. An extra feature after SSH access is allowed will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client which supports this type of connections.
